Before attempting larger-scale experiments in statecraft, such as creating a nation-state, it is essential to develop the practical competence required. The concept of Small-Scale Stans (SSS) proposes that we first acquire land and property to conduct smaller experiments in governance by establishing miniature “states within states.” This can be achieved through a variety of means, including purchasing vacant plots of land, acquiring private islands, or revitalising existing districts within cities. Such initiatives would also enable Sikhs to emulate what the Jewish and Qatari communities have accomplished in places like London, where they have established areas characterised by ownership of property, their own schools, ambulance services, and even private police forces. There is nothing preventing us Sikhs from following in the footsteps of our Gurus (who themselves founded townsteads and built thriving cities) and establishing our own domains within existing systems as a first step towards greater autonomy, co-dependence, and self-reliance. This vision does not require conflict or coercion, but simply the resources, planning, and commitment to improve and rejuvenate areas in ways that reflect our values and aspirations. We must prove our competency through action, not simply acquire a nation-state and then start wondering how to run it. Small-Scale-Stans are an opportunity to prove ourselves and learn key lessons before experimenting on much larger scales where it isn’t just shareholder’s wealth at stake, but the lives of potentially millions of people. ### Vichaars **The Sikh Spaces Project** - [[Sikh Spaces]] **Resources For Small Scale Stan Builders** - [[How To Finance A Sikh Intentional Community in the US]]
